February is the month of love, right?
So let’s talk about LOVE. Let’s talk about self-love.
Little kids have absolutely no problem with loving themselves and living to their fullest potential. As little girls we have no issues owning our beauty and be the princesses (and vets, actresses, fashion designers…) of our dreams.
But somehow, as we grow up, being proud of who you are, owning and liking the person looking back from the mirror becomes less acceptable.
And yes, part of that of course is due to the image of ‘perfection’ suggested by the media we are bombarded with every day – to have smoother skin, longer legs, flatter stomachs…
But there is also the fact, that somehow, you can’t say you have beautiful eyes, amazing hair or great legs… without being “full of yourself”.
Why?
I believe (I KNOW) a woman feels more powerful when she feels beautiful.
And a powerful woman fulfils her dreams, she designs a life she loves, and leads by example for others on how to shine.
It’s that simple.
Please don’t give away your power by not owning your beauty.
Loving yourself can seem like a vague idea, indulgent or even unnecessary. But it’s vital. Putting self love into practice and creating habits that fill you up is key to a fulfilled life. Daily self love will make you a better human, mother, wife, sister… a better you.
Start today. Accept this body of yours. Embrace it.
You are healthy, you are beautiful and you are enough.
And what does it have to do with photography?
I’m glad you asked.
We don’t always see ourselves objectively in the mirror. We see all the little imperfections and obsess over them… when they are really not that important. The rest of the world sees us differently than we see ourselves. No flaws, no imperfections, just the beautiful light that shines from each of us.
And this is what I capture.
We are beauty and we are power, let’s celebrate that shall we?
